How We Support Healthcare Providers: The Strasbourg University Hospitals (HUS) Case Study

Since 2016, Health Factory has partnered with Strasbourg University Hospitals (HUS) to drive grassroots clinical innovation. Through preparatory workshops and the Hacking Health Camp marathon, around 30 functional prototypes have been built over hackathon weekends, with 4 hospital projects selected for structured incubation each year—including Pixacare (now a leading medical photo startup), Senometry, Lud Hopital, and Fat Buster. According to Prof. Carole Mathelin, this process achieves in 6 months what would otherwise take 6 years.

Key Outcomes:
  • Long-standing innovation partnership with Strasbourg University Hospitals (HUS) since 2016.
  • ~30 functional prototypes built with clinicians, patients, developers, and UX designers.
  • 4 hospital-led projects selected and incubated every year after the hackathon.

How We Support Pharmaceutical Companies: Reinventing Medical Detailing Through Innovation (Sanofi Case Study)

To help pharmaceutical leaders move “Beyond the Pill”, Health Factory partnered with Sanofi to train its diabetes medical representatives as innovation facilitators. Within 1 month, 27 collaborative projects emerged nationwide with healthcare professionals, and 9 clinical teams were selected and coached for 4 months leading up to a health hackathon.

Key Outcomes:
  • Transformed medical representatives into field innovation facilitators working alongside clinicians.
  • 27 field innovation projects surfaced across France in just 1 month.
  • 9 multidisciplinary healthcare professional teams selected and coached over 4 months.

Healthcare Co-Design Workshops: Our 3-Stage Methodology (Scoping, Facilitation, Delivery)

Health Factory’s healthcare co-design workshops (“Ideas Shaker” for problem discovery and ideation, and “Design Maker” for project acceleration, lasting from half a day to 2 days) follow a structured 3-stage methodology: 1. Strategic Scoping and custom expert selection; 2. High-energy Facilitation using proprietary healthcare Design Thinking canvases; 3. Actionable Delivery producing a validated experimentation roadmap.

Key Outcomes:
  • Two signature formats: “Ideas Shaker” (ideation) and “Design Maker” (project acceleration).
  • Flexible duration from half a day to 2 full days with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Stage 1 — Scoping: problem framing, participant curation, and mobilization of Health Factory domain experts.
Genesis of the 11 winning projects from the Hacking Health Camp 2021 hackathon organized by Health Factory Hackathon Feedback & Case Study

Startups, E-Health, HealthTech and Hackathon: Inside the Genesis of Hacking Health Camp 2021 Winning Projects

This Hacking Health Camp 2021 feedback report examines the genesis of 11 winning projects led by 12 frontline healthcare innovators (physicians, hospital pharmacists, physiotherapists, orthotists, ocularists, expert patients, data scientists, and hospital CSR leaders). Over a 54-hour interdisciplinary sprint facilitated by Health Factory, each real-world clinical challenge was turned into a functional prototype: GO ONE GAME, HELLO KINÉ, ODYSSÉE, ORTHOMASTER, OXYLIB, Data Breast Cancer Project, Leaf Check, 1000 J, COLORED, STOP BLOC, and ALOUETTE.

Key Outcomes:
  • 12 project leaders and 11 winning teams coached by Health Factory experts during Hacking Health Camp.
  • 100% frontline origins: every project stems from a concrete daily pain point experienced by a patient, hospital clinician, private practitioner, or healthcare student.
  • Multidisciplinary teams uniting physicians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, patients, AI/Data engineers, UX/3D designers, and legal specialists.
